Some people are just built for adventure, there is a big wide world out there to explore and why not do it while furthering your education? There are so many pros associated with living and studying abroad and even though the thought of packing up your life and moving countries might seem a little daunting or unachievable I am here to tell you it is the best thing you could ever do.
You see, we sometimes get stuck in the day to day, our insular little boxes of safety. We know our way around the streets, we speak the language, we shop at the same centres, we eat at the same restaurants, we hang with the same friends and we do the same things each and every weekend. What if you had the chance to get outside of your comfort zone, what if you had the chance to learn a different language, to discover yourself and who you really are away from your family and friends, what if you had the chance to travel and see places you never thought you would. Surely, you can see what I am getting at here? And that is the word GROWTH
There is nothing like travelling, trust me I have done a lot of it and to live and study abroad well that my friends is a dream. The dream in fact.
Check out my top reasons for why you should consider studying abroad while completing uni:
Not only will you get the chance to travel to your country of choice but you will get to explore other cities, towns and countries that are close to your host country on your uni holidays and weekends. Did someone say a little trip to Paris for the weekend? YES PLEASE!
You could learn a new language
There is nothing more awesome than learning another language, you can immerse yourself in the culture and gain some valuable and just down right cool vocabulary along the way. What better way to practice the language you are studying then speaking it on an everyday basis?
You’ll make new friends
Traveling takes you out of your comfort zone and you won’t have your BFF by your side to talk about your day with or go on mini adventures with so you will be looking for new friends when travelling which is kind of exciting right? You can never have to many friends, especially abroad. You will face new challenges together, study together and have fun exploring your new host country. There is no doubt you will make lifelong friends and memories that last a lifetime!
You will grow as a person
Life as a uni student is hard enough, let alone throwing into the works an overseas adventure but the pros far outweigh the cons. You will learn to be independent a lot quicker and gain valuable life lessons along the way that will only further your life goals. You will find greatness within that you didn’t even know you had by putting yourself out of your comfort zone and your growth will be expediential.
You will appreciate your friends, family and home when you get back
It is easy to take what you have for granted; a hug from a loved one, dinner on the table, your bills and accommodation sorted for you. Living away from home, friends and family will give you a new appreciation for what you have and hold dear.
Life is meant for living, and you should do just that! Check if your uni has exchange programs and see what you need to do to get over to your country of choice, what’s the worst that can happen? You hate it and you come home. At least you tried, put yourself out there and chased an experience that will change your life, your path and who you are to become as an adult. You have just one life, so go on and live it to the fullest!
