Our Ultimate Career Advice

We may have had a little bit of experience here and there, and feel it’s fair to give you some insight when it comes to you finding your career.
Firstly, you will be learning so much about what you want and don’t want from your career. It’s OK to change careers and paths even when you thought for years you were on the right one to take on feedback and criticism like a boss and use it to better yourself as a career professional.

Here is a little look into some of the things we have learned along the way.
  1. If one door closes another is sure to open.
  2. Treat your boss with respect, even when they are wrong.
  3. Stop procrastinating, if you want to make a change then do it.
  4. Have a killer resume and cover letter up your sleeve in case you ever need it.
  5. Keep your LinkedIn profile updated and use it to post articles and other great achievements you have along your career.
  6. Not everyone at work is going to like you, and that is more than OK, find your clique and stick with them.
  7.  Try not to call in sick, you are better to go into the office dying and let them send you home then call in sick (they never really believe you)
  8. Don’t listen to anyone who tries to dim your light, follow your passion no matter what.
  9. Motivate yourself to find a new job or a career you love, it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
  10. Get to the gym. Healthy body, healthy mind.
  11. Take your lunch to work each day, you’ll save hundreds of dollars a month.
  12. Feedback is just that, don’t take it personally.
  13. Stay sober at Friday night drinks, you don’t want to be the white girl wasted one who’s the hot topic of a group text the next day.
  14. Save your money, even its $50 a week. Your hard work needs to amount to something you can see and it usually helps if it’s in dollars in your bank.
  15. Take a holiday once a year, you deserve it.
  16. Find a mentor who you look up to and who is where you want to be, you will be in good hands.
  17. Further your education, take courses, read, take a summer class.
  18. People will not always remember what you say but they will always remember how you made them feel.
  19. Dress to impress, keep your hair clean and your nails manicured. People will take you more seriously.
  20. Go outside to eat your lunch, eating at your desk every day isn’t great for your productivity.
  21. Take notes in meetings, you’ll look like a superstar.
  22. Get 8 hours of sleep, your body and mind CHANGE.
  23. Teach yourself the importance of time management and being organised.
  24. Put your hand up for that promotion, you’ve got to be in it to win it.
  25. It’s OK to change careers, use them as a learning experience and find your true passion and meaning in life.
  26. Don’t be tardy, get to work 15 min earlier and work back when needed. People will take notice.
  27. If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll always get what you’ve got. Get out of your comfort zone.
  28. Be honest on your resume but spice it up a little, you need to set yourself aside from the other applicants.
  29. Be a doer not a talker. If you say you’ll get something done do it.
  30. Head to the SkillsRoad Career Quiz and find out what you’re really good at and where your passion lies. It could help you get your career goals in the bag.
