Can you shortly describe a typical day on the job?
Working closely with key accounts to help grow their business through training, project support and other relationship management activities
Why did you choose to be an Account Manager as your career? What or who inspired you to do so?
Relationship management is enjoyable for me. Building rapport and trust with people and having them rely on you as a pivotal part of their business feels very rewarding.
What would you say are three key personality aspects or skills that make for a good Account Manager?
- Being able to work fast
- Not being afraid to handle difficult scenarios
- Being able to work with limited resources
What have you learned about yourself through the work that you do?
That there’s so much I still don’t know and that I have a lot to learn!
What’s been your best moment while doing your work?
Signing a new deal with a large client.
And a really hard moment?
Having a project fall through that you’ve spent a lot of time and effort on.
How do you keep going when things get challenging?
Knowing that the challenging times will help me grow and learn.
Are there any surprising or odd things that people wouldn’t expect if they picked this career?
Travelling to regional areas and meeting some of the characters out there is an interesting part of it all.
Can you share a funny or weird story about something you experienced while working on a project?
I accidentally filled up a rental car with diesel while on a work trip. It ruined the whole day...
What advice would you give to young people considering pursuing a career in this industry?
Be prepared to have difficult conversations all the time!
