Required Skills

As for personal attributes, we are looking for a bright personality, who is very organized. You will need reasonable computer skills, be capable of talking comfortably on the phone, and be capable of conversing with the public.

You also need the desire to complete your apprenticeship. Apprentice wages are modest, but the ability to earn very well on completion is great, so make sure yopu are that person.

As to gender, over the last 12 years two apprentices were women and one was a man.

We are particularly proud that one of our female apprentices in this role was recently NSW TAFE Apprentice Of The Year. She has now progressed to spare parts coordinator at a commercial helicopter company and doing very well. (Maybe this could be you too)

Role Description

The person we are seeking has the passion and desire to become a qualified spare parts interpreter. This process takes approximately 3 years and includes TAFE learning online . During your time you will learn almost every facet of the trade, and a great deal about small business and how to run a profitable spare parts department.

Scooter Centrals team of 4 technicians, workshop coordinator and spare part interpreter work as a close knit group to provide solutions for all sorts of modern 4 stroke machines (and the occasional 2 stroker).

Our sales team sell the range of scooters from Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, Kymco and SYM. We sell around 500 scooters per year, and we have factory technical and parts support from each brand. We are Australias number 1 Vespa dealer.

Your role will be mentored by our workshop coordinator and trained spare parts interpreter. Your role is similar to one of a detective. You will learn to identify each machine, then use parts diagrams and price and availability reports to source the correct part in the most cost effective manner. (Our mechanics will love you for doing this)

You will have a your own dedicated desk, two computer screens and access to all of the major scooter brands spare parts and service information.

We will provide training for the system we use and also training for specific models.

  • Supply of parts
  • Managing our on site parts holdings
  • Understanding the costs of holding parts
  • Learning the many different parts of a 2 wheel machines.
  • Learning the technical speak of the mechanics here at the shop
  • Understanding customer needs
  • Managing phone conversations
  • Using computers to your advantage
  • Sourcing spare parts overseas

There is much to learn, but on completion you will be a skilled professional.

A bit about your day

Your work week is Monday to Friday.

A typical day is 8:30am start and we work through to 1230 with a 10 minute break at 10:30 for coffee along the way. Lunch break is 12:30pm - 1:10pm.

We use a similar program in the afternoon, working from 1:10pm to 5:06pm with a coffee break around 3:30pm.

Holidays are available for 4 weeks and dates by negotiation. Public holidays you will be off.

Our environment is quite interactive, so you will often work with the sales team with retail parts, and with over the phone trade customers who buy wholesale from us.
