Media, Arts

People in the media, entertainment, sporting and arts industries inform or entertain us. This broad industry group includes people working in theatre & film, entertainment venues, recreation grounds, journalists, actors, dancers, sportspeople, cartoonists, photographers, orchestral & opera performers as well as people working in public relations, advertising, book publishing, website production and interactive media.

The ‘live performance’ field, for example, includes both contemporary and classical music, musicals, theatre, comedy, dance, opera, circus and physical theatre.

Your passion, talent and commitment as well as industry experience and relevant qualifications can help you find work with, for example, producers, venues, promoters, performing arts companies, festivals and industry suppliers such as ticketing companies and technical specialists.

Certificate II - IV qualifications are available in the following areas:

  • Screen
  • Broadcasting (radio)
  • Broadcasting (television)
  • Media Journalism (Certificate II and III in News Media)
  • Multimedia
  • Sport & Recreation.

Marketing

Marketing involves planning and scheduling, branding, research, sales management public relations, online or e-marketing, events management and communication.

Your work would include product and/or service marketing, pricing, distribution (including online delivery), and promotion (advertising, public relations, word of mouth and point of sale).


Printing & graphic arts

People in the printing and graphic arts industries help create corporate logos, office signage, point of sale or display material, sales catalogues, newspaper or magazine advertisements and product packaging.

This industry includes a wide range of activities – from the creation of images and layouts (design) to the preparation of these for printing (pre-press), reproduction by a number of processes (press or printing), and the assembly of final products (post press or finishing). In addition, the industry supports a large number of related industries – the manufacturing of products like ink, cartridges, specialty papers and eco or enviro bags for example.

New and emerging digital technologies are creating huge change throughout the printing and graphic arts industries. Demand for some traditional occupations is on the decline while job opportunities in areas like digital production are expanding rapidly.

Qualifications from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma are available in both general and specialist areas, including:

• Printing and Graphic Arts
• Graphic Media
• Printing
• Converting, binding and finishing;
• Mail house.
