Signing the training contract

Once you have an apprenticeship or traineeship position, either you or your employer will need to contact ABL Apprenticeships Centre (ABLAC) on 1300 652 236 to organise the signing of your training contract. This is required by law to protect your rights and those of the employer.  An ABLAC consultant will visit the workplace to do this.

A training contract is a legally binding contract between you, your employer and your parent/carer if you are under 18 at commencement. Your training contract is for a nominal term which is the expected time it will take you to complete your apprenticeship or traineeship. It outlines the rights and responsibilities for you and the employer.

Your training contract is forwarded to the Department of Education and Training for registration of your apprenticeship or traineeship.

ABLAC will explain the whole process to you and your employer.
