There is a diverse range of different jobs in the accounting industry, from general accounting clerks to auditors and bookkeepers, accounting jobs are always in high demand.

While this industry is focused on numbers, you’ll still need to be a good communicator to explain complex financial data to colleagues. Accuracy and precision is critical when dealing with the businesses dollars and cents, so being a stickler for detail is a great asset.

The great thing about accounting is you will always be learning, you can start with a Certificate II and overtime complete additional courses to work your way up the ladder.

Training & Qualifications

​The types of courses and qualifications you can use to make a career in this industry begin at the Certificate II level and progress all the way to university level.

To gain exposure into the industry, it’s best to explore:
  • Cert II in Financial Services
  • Certificate III in Accounts Administration
  • Cert III in Business Administration
  • Cert IV in Business Administration
  • Certificate IV in Accounting

This industry is regulated and accredited by three professional accounting bodies - the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), CPA Australia (CPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA). So in order to be accepted into any of these areas you will need a minimum qualification of Bachelors degree or Advanced Diploma. So you could explore course such as:
