Apprenticeship and traineeship offer opportunities to people with a disability

Apprenticeships and traineeships:

  • provide a fantastic opportunity to get skilled - and into the workforce
  • are available in just about any industry you can think of, in fact, there are over 500 qualifications available in more than 80% of industries. So no matter what your interest there is probably an apprenticeship or traineeship available for you to choose from -with either you’re current employer or a new one
  • provide practical, hands-on training programs that help you get the job you want

No experience or qualifications? No problem

Specific work experience or formal qualifications aren’t required to be in the running for an apprenticeship or traineeship. You may not have done that exact type of job before but you may have the skills required. Employers might be looking for people who have general life skills and are enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn. Don’t underestimate your skills or potential.

  2. search and apply for the apprenticeship and traineeship vacancies listed on skillsroad.com.au, Jobwise.gov.au, job network agencies and other job sites.
  3. if you are currently employed, approach your manager about signing you up for an apprenticeship or traineeship qualification related to your role.
  4. get out there – visit businesses that you’d like to work for and sell the benefits of having you on board as an apprentice or trainee.
  5. once you have a job - ask your employer to call ABLAC when you start. ABLAC will arrange for a local consultant to help you and your employer get started with your training program. ABLAC will also provide ongoing support and assistance to you and your employer.
